The story :

Chateau de Versailles, 37°C. The heat is unbearable and the sun is literally blazing. Lucienne, Léon Pancoucke's wife, had really been looking forward to this visit, but despite the many wonders of the place, fatigue has now become an integral part of the long awaited moment.

That early July 1957, they are quietly walking towards the King's vegetable garden, a place which is not usually open to public viewing. They are patiently waiting in the welcoming shade, leaning against an old wall, for the Curator, a good friend of theirs, to open the large black entrance gate that leads into the orchard.

The sweet fragrance of ripe peaches and of fleshy and juicy apricots fills the place. The lush foliage of espalier fruit trees, lined up along the wall, adds a green and refreshing touch to the garden. A shared moment of summer pleasure.
